Review: Smooth Retsina Glow – Memories Made

Right from the opening groove, “Memories Made” hooks you with its warm, funk-pop-jazz fusion vibe. Think staccato guitar riffs mixing with a mellow bassline that just refuses to sit still. Colin Wolf’s voice has this easygoing charm, like he’s telling you a story over coffee. Relatable, smooth, with a hint of nostalgia. Sarah Stoll’s vocals add another layer; they’re playful and airy without overpowering the track, a neat blend that gives the song its signature brightness.

Knowing the backstory makes it even sweeter. After Colin Wolf earned that Lehigh Valley Music Award in March 2020 and then had to rebuild the band when COVID hit, this track came out in October 2020 as the first single off Out of the Ether. It even snagged a number one spot on Australia’s Bank City Radio. That mix of grit and optimism you hear? It’s real, born out of starting from scratch, swapping vocalists, drummers, and keeping that spark alive.

The production feels tight but not polished. There’s personality in the little chord twists. The funk breaks surprise you in a good way. And yeah, the wah-wah guitar flourishes and jazzy undercurrents have that Steely Dan-meets-modern indie twist that keeps it interesting.

I love this song and it should be in everyone’s playlist because it’s got heart, groove, and that uplifting feeling you didn’t even know you needed until it caught you.
