Review: Joyride – Cruise Control

“Cruise Control” is the kind of song that immediately makes you want to roll your windows down, shoulders loosen, and smile without thinking. Right from that shimmery, reverb-soaked guitar riff recorded in their Boston DIY home studio, Joyride nails the nostalgic, late-summer vibe. It’s surf-rock swagger that feels like golden hour, even if you’re stuck at work. The rhythm bounces along so naturally that by the time the vocals kick in, I’m already picturing a coastal drive with the breeze in my hair and nothing but the open road ahead.

I love how Carson Pallad’s voice is warm and genuine, effortlessly carrying lyrics about letting go of the wheel and chasing that feeling of freedom. The hook is such a slow-burner. It doesn’t hit you instantly, but once it does, it gets stuck in your head for good. With Joyride’s drummer, guitarist, and bassist locking in tight behind him, the track is upbeat without feeling overproduced. It’s charmingly DIY, and that makes it feel honest.

If you’re into Peach Pit or The Moss, this one’s going to feel like a familiar embrace. I’ve been singing “Cruise Control” to myself all morning, and I seriously think everyone should have it in their playlist because it’s just one of those songs that instantly puts you in a better mood and makes everything feel lighter.
