Prima Apollinaare brings a real, deeply personal narrative to life on her four-track collection, “23”. Born in Monza, Italy, she grew up in an entertainment household with a singer songwriter mother and a father managing prominent artists. Despite being surrounded by music, she was forbidden from touching the family piano and urged down a practical path, eventually completing a law degree. However, her creative heart remained steadfast. Moving to Los Angeles with $800, she worked odd jobs including ushering at the Greek Theatre before securing acting roles in projects like Carnival Row and Mozart in the Jungle. After her daughters grew up, she dedicated herself to studying voice and instruments, finally taking ownership of her artistic journey.
On “23”, Prima transforms her past experiences into honest indie pop. Her songwriting lands with genuine warmth because every vocal delivery and lyrically dense line comes straight from her lived history.
Produced alongside Eren Cannata at Sturdy Studios, the collection presents her most personal writing yet. Standout entry “Didn’t Look Back” reflects on childhood memories of being left at boarding school, confronting painful moments with graceful vocal melodies. Meanwhile, “Automobile” draws on childhood trips to the Monza racetrack with her father, capturing speed and nostalgia. “Amazon” taps into her unique upbringing alongside exotic animals, adding a distinct layer to the project. Made completely outside major record labels, the release highlights an artist fully in control of her craft. Beyond recording, Prima remains committed to expanding musical access, keeping a long term goal to found a free music academy for kids in underserved communities.
