DECO-LUXE, the synthwave project lead by producer and composer Matt Hancock, offers an incredible taste of his upcoming album Eventide with his new single, “Mellow”. Following a pivotal shift in his musical path when a nerve injury prevented him from playing guitar, Matt pivoted toward synthesizers, electronic production, and sound design. Inspired by the sleek elegance of the Art Deco movement, the project channels a smooth mix of vintage charm and modern electronic polish.
The creation of “Mellow” began with a clear goal to craft a sound that felt instantly nostalgic. DECO-LUXE started by designing an atmospheric texture using heavily distorted samples, then applied sidechain compression to give the sound a subtle pulsing movement. That evolving texture became the foundation of the track, followed by a driving synth bass line that gives the song its forward momentum. Vocalist Kyat Cute lends her stunning talents to the piece, delivering a vocal performance that perfectly locks into the reflective mood DECO-LUXE envisioned. Their creative chemistry was so natural that she joined in to collaborate across the entire Eventide project.
For me, this track is a brilliant showcase of synth production, and the seamless pairing between the rich instrumentals and Kyat Cute’s vocal performance keeps you hooked from start to finish. The way the retro synthesizer tones blend with contemporary pop polish creates an inviting atmosphere that feels both fresh and nostalgic all at once.
You should definitely make sure to give DECO-LUXE a follow on his official Instagram and Facebook pages so you do not miss any of his upcoming behind-the-scenes content detailing his unique production methods.
