Review: Hex Poseur – The Alpha

Hex Poseur comes back swinging with “The Alpha”, a heavy and sharp-edged single that makes its point loud and clear. The Nottingham-based artist taps into a darker, more abrasive sound this time, drawing on garage-rock grit and metal-inspired weight to frame a track that is both confrontational and darkly playful. Right from the first hit, the song locks you into its thick guitars and forceful rhythm, setting the tone for something that refuses to sit quietly.

At its core, “The Alpha” takes a pointed look at toxic masculinity and the red pill mindset, using satire to strip the so-called alpha male persona down to its most ridiculous parts. Hex Poseur steps directly into that role, which adds a sharp layer of irony and humor. The writing walks a smart line between menace and mockery, letting the music do much of the talking while the message lands without over-explaining itself.

The band brings real power to the track. Hex Poseur leads on vocals and guitar with confidence, backed by Jacob Wakeling on drums and Holly Osborne on bass. Together, they build a sound that moves between brooding tension and crushing choruses, giving the song a sense of motion that keeps it engaging from start to finish. The layered approach adds depth without smoothing out the rough edges that make the track hit harder.

Recorded, mixed, and mastered at Nottingham’s Snug Recording Co, the song feels rooted in place while still aiming well beyond it. This release also marks Hex Poseur’s first independent single since stepping away from her label, and it shows a clear move from earlier punk influences into a heavier, stoner rock-inspired direction. Following 2024’s live EP “Sheriff Sessions” and the 2023 LP “Stunning”, this track opens the door to a new chapter with more music planned ahead.

Personally, I appreciate how direct this song is. It says exactly what it wants to say and backs it up with real muscle. There’s confidence here that makes the whole thing stick with you long after it ends. Make sure you follow Hex Poseur across her socials and keep an eye on what’s coming next, because “The Alpha” signals a bold run ahead. Add the track to your playlists, share it with friends who like their rock heavy and sharp, and stay locked in as more releases arrive. Supporting artists pushing their sound forward like this helps keep the scene exciting, and Hex Poseur is clearly building something worth paying attention to.
