Q: Hi! Before we get into the music, how are you feeling about everything at this point in
your journey?
creating, etc., but also for the struggles I have faced. It can be hard to look back on such
painful times in life and try to see the beauty that can come from it, but I truly believe
every bump in the road has perfectly aligned to who and where I am today.
Q: When you sit down to write, are you someone who plans things out, or do you just follow
whatever you’re feeling in the moment?
A: I would say it is a bit of both. I journal down ideas frequently that have been sitting on
my heart and want to write about, but when it comes down to the moment where I’m
presently creating, the lyrics melody all come together in that space.
Q: I’m curious, what’s the first thing that usually comes to you, a lyric, a melody, or just a
feeling you can’t shake?
A: A concept usually comes to me first, then melodies start to flow.
Q: You’ve got this really expressive vocal style, do you ever hold back in the studio, or are
you the kind of artist who just goes all in every time?
A: Thank you! There are many times where I save these “all in” vocal moments to create a
powerful build up! I wouldn’t say I ever hold back, but definitely give space for runs and
high notes for emotional/ powerful moments in my songs.
Q: Breakups and relationships can hit everyone differently, how do you know when
something personal is ready to be turned into a song?
A: For me specifically, I knew my heartbreak was ready to be turned into a song when my
heart/mind was on overdrive and needed an outlet to express my pain. At least for a
breakup (which has been a big chunk of inspiration for my writing), my heart felt so heavy;
like I couldn’t carry all of these thoughts alone and wanted to share with the world for
people to seek comfort/ visibility through my music.
Q: Do you ever listen back to your own songs and feel like you’re reliving that moment all
over again, or does it become something separate over time?
A: Listening to the song shortly after it has been written, especially in the studio freshly
after we dove deep into all the stories and memories; does make me feel like im reliving
that moment, however, it does start to separate over time.
Q: What’s something about you as an artist that people don’t fully see yet?
A: I think there is still room for people to get to know my story and who I am as an artist. I
think people are going to discover that my music is relatable and an outlet to make people
feel understood.
Q: How do you balance vulnerability with strength when you’re putting your story out there
for people to hear?A: I believe that there is a lot of strength in being vulnerable with people, and I feel myself
gaining more strength from sharing my experiences and feeling that reciprocation from
people makes me feel not alone in my journey.
Q: Has your perspective on love or relationships changed since you started making music?
A: feeling the ups and of being in love or heartbreak can make you feel very isolated/you’re
the only one going through this, however, the more I share my story through my
songwriting. I understand that I am not alone in this, and many people can relate to my
story.
Q: When you think about your sound right now, do you feel like you’ve found it, or are you
still exploring and figuring things out?
A: of course as artist, we are constantly growing and exploring different sounds we like, but
I do think my sound right now definitely feels authentic to me as an artist.
Q: What’s been the most exciting or unexpected moment for you recently in your journey?
A: there has definitely been a lot of unexpected and exciting moments in my journey so far,
I would say being a finalist on American Idol has definitely been one of the most exciting
things I’ve done recently! That show made me grow not just as an artist, but as a woman
and has really given me the space to find my confidence on stage.
Q: And looking ahead, what’s next for you for the rest of this year, what should people be
watching out for?
A: i’m very excited for this year! People can watch out for new singles coming out soon and
my first EP later this year
Listening to songs so you don’t have to! Just kidding :D, you totally should. Music blogger by day, nurse by night
