We spoke with Jamie Turner about “Memory Box” and more!

Hi! I really loved your song ‘Memory Box’ and find it absolutely brilliant. If someone hasn’t had the chance to listen to it yet, how would you best describe the track?

A: Hello and thank you so much! I’d say the song is a very happy-go-lucky tune. It tried to make it bouncy, fun and easy to listen to. It definetley has some mid 70’s yacht rock vibes to it.

Where was it recorded?

A: I recorded the song in my home studio “Hum Drum” it took me 2 days to record all of the parts and a few days of mixing before it was done, I had heaps of fun recording it and managed to get it done quite quickly.

Do you have plans to include it in a bigger release, like an EP or album?

A: Not at this stage, right now I enjoy focusing on one song at a time. Hopefully an album will be on the cards for next year. Which i’m hoping to write and record from scratch.

I’m interested in how you began your musical journey. Did you always know that this was your true passion?

A: I started playing music at the age of 13, trying to learn as many instruments as I could get my hands on. I loved listening, learning and absorbing as many different types of music then and still do now. It very quickly consumed my every thought and I knew it was going to be a life-long passion from very early on.

Your music blends various styles and sounds in a captivating manner. If given the opportunity, who would be your ideal collaborator and what is the reason behind your choice?

A: I’d say Todd Rundgren, in terms of his approach to songwriting, playing and procuction I feel he’s one of the best. He’s not afraid to think outside the box and everything he touches turns to gold!

What has been your favorite musical experience so far?

A: I’ve been lucky to have so many great musical experiences in my life, one more recent that was a very special achievment for me was releasing my first solo song “Come Back And See Me” in March this year. I’d been wanting to release music by myself for over 10 years and finally did it, that for me was a real highlight.

Where are you located? Can you describe how the local music scene has influenced your sound in any way?

A: I’m from Perth, Western Australia. The Perth music scene is great! We have so many amazing artists here doing incredible things. I wouldn’t say that my sound has been influenced by the local scene but it has definetley been very inspiring for me is becuase of how supportive everyone is towards each others music and performances.

If you had the opportunity to perform at any venue worldwide, which one would you choose and why?

A: The Royal Albert Hall for sure! I feel that venues don’t get any more iconic than that.

What was the first album you remember owning?

A: The first album I bought with my own money was The Beach Boys – Today! Still a favourite album of mine. I feel it’s a masterclass in both production and songwriting.

Finally, do you have anything to share about upcoming gigs? Also, what are your plans for 2024?

A: For now i’m focusing on writing and recording as much music as I can, that’s my main focus. However, I am looking forward to sharing some news early next year about some potential tour dates.
