Q: Hi! When you were creating Clean Cut Lioness, was there a moment where you felt like
you’d finally “nailed” the sound you were going for, or is it still evolving for you?
A: I don’t think a sound is ever truly finished. Each project is a snapshot in time – a
reflection of where I am creatively and emotionally in that moment. Clean Cut Lioness feels
like a clear step up from Patterns, and that’s always my intention: to keep growing, pushing
myself, and letting each body of work build on the last. It’s less about arriving somewhere
and more about enjoying the journey and the growth that comes with it.
Q: A lot of people are drawn in immediately by your voice – how has your relationship with
singing and performing shifted over time as you’ve matured as an artist?
A: Early on, I was focused on proving something to myself. Now I just enjoy the sound I can
make and feel lucky to use my voice to paint pictures, share thoughts, and blend different
grooves. In a world that’s so heavy, singing is just pure escapism, makes you feel free.
Q: Your music blends lots of different influences – from jazz to R&B and soul – how do you
think Clean Cut Lioness reflects who you are right now as a person?
A: I feel like most music, unless the artist is switching things up super fast, reflects a
version of yourself from a while back. Clean Cut Lioness is very much Eloise from three
years ago. It’s a fusion of sassy, outspoken narratives about life: dealing with big egos,
listening to your inner desires, noticing how time doesn’t wait, navigating mixed-up love,
and celebrating empowered growth – especially in the interlude. I actually wrote the CCL
interlude as a little femme-strut anthem for the walk to work !
Q: Walk us through where you were emotionally when you started writing the EP – were you
in a particular headspace or vibe that shaped the songs?
A: I think I use songs to share my perspective, so I wasn’t in any one specific headspace.
More like capturing snapshots in time. Each song is distinct and explores a different theme –
I like to write that way just to keep myself engaged!
Q: Which of these new tracks do you catch yourself humming randomly when you’re not
even trying to?
A: Hmm ‘Trust You’, I think – I love this one, it’s abstract and really explores the concept of
trust, and how it can twist and fester in your mind…
Q: Your music being explosive and meaningful – are there moments on this EP where you
pushed yourself artistically in ways you hadn’t before?
A: Yes! Time Won’t Wait plays on my Italian heritage. I wrote two Italian “raps,” which
challenged me. I also love shaking up songs with dynamically different outros, and both Fire
and Ego really embody that. The vocal layering and experimentation on those tracks are
some of my favourite parts of the EP.
Q: How do you balance writing songs that are personal to you while also trying to connect
with listeners on a universal level?
A: Honestly, I don’t write with the goal of connecting with listeners – maybe that’s not
conventional, but for me, being authentic comes first. If I start writing for others, it changes
the whole concept of artistry.
Q: Were there any moments in the studio during this project that surprised you – like an
idea that came out of nowhere and ended up shaping a song?
A: The Clean Cut Lioness interlude for sure. It started as a simple idea for an empowerment
anthem to strut to, but I wanted it to feel like the angels of sass were chanting in your ear.
So, we added vocal layers and a bit of distortion, and it grew into something fierce.
Q: When you listen back to your own music, does it feel different to you now compared with
when you first recorded it?
A: Ah honestly, I feel so lucky when I hear my music back. In a world full of striving artists,
I can sit with my work and feel genuinely content. I don’t crave endless accolades – I’m
happy that it exists out there, like a painting in a gallery. So yeah, I feel really satisfied.
Q: If you could describe Clean Cut Lioness to someone who’s never heard your music before without using genre names – what would you say?
A: It’s a fierce female’s take on love, ego, time, and empowerment.
Q: What’s been the most rewarding part of releasing this EP so far – whether it’s performing
live, fan reactions, or something else entirely?
A: We’ve played Ego live, and I’m dropping a live band video this month. I guess playing the
songs with a live band and bring them to life in real-time is what it’s all about. We’ve played
some wicked slots this Summer.
Q: Looking ahead to the rest of this year, what are you most excited about – new music,
tours, collaborations, or something else you’ve got lined up?
A: I’m excited to play live a bit more and experiment with a different setup. But mostly, I
just love creating new music – so I’m cooking as usual, new releases coming spoon !!
Listening to songs so you don’t have to! Just kidding :D, you totally should. Music blogger by day, nurse by night
