I just stumbled on Tim Johnson Jr.’s “Fly Girl” and wow, it’s a pure burst of sunshine that gets you moving from beat one. It’s got this sweet 90s R&B/dance pop vibe, think nods to Michael Jackson or Babyface, but still totally fresh and Tim’s own thing. His voice slides over the groove effortlessly, smooth one second, hitting those big, soared-out runs the next. The production really clicks too, co-produced with his dad, and you can feel that warm, lived-in energy behind every bassline and sparkling synth.
The lyrics are all about that head-over-heels moment, instant attraction and confidence, and Tim sells it so well I felt like I was right there in the dance floor scene. Then there’s the music video: jam-packed with family, friends, and cameo love from Jossie Harris and Golden Brooks, it turns total nostalgia into a full-blown celebration. You can see how much pride and joy went into it, the kind of vibe that just makes you grin.
I like the song, and it should be in everyone’s playlist for sure—it’s got that feel-good, party starter energy that makes you wanna blast it driving down the highway with windows down, and I don’t think a summer’s playlist is complete without it. It’s upbeat, fun, heartfelt, and shows Tim’s range as a singer and personality. It’s impossible to resist.
