If you’re not already listening to Nantua, let me introduce you to your next musical obsession. Their latest single, titled “Cutesy”, and it’s one of those songs that quietly gets under your skin and stays there in the best way. The Bristol-based duo, made up of Lynne Thomas and Lewis Bradshaw, have crafted something really special here. The track is this dreamy, emotional swirl of gentle guitar loops, layered with Lynne’s soft but commanding vocals that pull you right into their world.
“Cutesy” feels like it’s walking a tightrope between tenderness and tension, and it does that so well. You can hear influences like Adrienne Lenker and Novo Amor, but it never sounds like a copy. It’s very much its own thing. The rhythms are subtle but keep things moving, and there’s this push-pull vibe in the lyrics that really gets to the heart of that inner back-and-forth we all go through. There’s a kind of quiet defiance in it too, like a calm storm of feelings you’re not quite done processing.
I just love this song so much, it’s been on repeat for me all week and I honestly think it should be on everyone’s playlist, whether you’re driving home late, journaling on a rainy day, or just vibing out with headphones. Also, mark your calendar, Nantua’s next single “Falling” is coming out July 4th and if it’s anything like “Cutesy”, we’re in for another beautiful, emotional gut-punch.
