Review: Flowers for Juno – Lipstick and Furs

Flowers for Juno’s “Lipstick and Furs” pulls you in with a dark glow that sticks around long after the first listen. It has that late-night pull some songs manage right away, where the sound is moody and textured but still sharp enough to land every hook. There is a strong mix of gothic rock, post-punk, darkwave, and shoegaze in here, yet nothing about it comes off forced. The song has its own identity and moves with real confidence from start to finish. A big part of that comes from how much detail is packed into the arrangement. Layered guitars, fuzz bass synth, programmed drums, Mellotron, electric sitar, and Northumbrian harp all help build the song’s world. That might sound like a lot on paper, but it comes together in a way that feels natural. The track stays focused, and the vocal cuts through clearly, giving the whole thing a strong center. The chorus has a grip to it, too, which gives the song a nice balance between atmosphere and immediacy.

There is also a strong visual side to the writing. Images like hoop earrings, designer purses, fake tan, lipstick, and furs create a picture that is glamorous on the surface but a little haunted underneath. That contrast gives the song more depth. It is not only about style. There is longing in it, and a sense of fixation that makes the whole thing more interesting the longer you sit with it. I really enjoyed how “Lipstick and Furs” manages to sound rich and intimate at the same time. For me, this is the kind of song that opens up more with every replay, and that always says a lot.

It also helps that the single comes with a wider world around it, with “Message to Lana – Alternative Mix”, and “The Girl with the Hoop Earrings – Vincent Van Goth Mix”, joining the title track. Even with those extra versions in the release, “Lipstick and Furs” leaves the strongest impression. It has style, character, and enough emotional pull to keep people coming back.

Make sure you keep up with Flowers for Juno and add “Lipstick and Furs” to your playlist, because this is exactly the kind of song that deserves a lasting spot in your rotation. It has mood, detail, and a point of view that sticks with you, making it easy to return to again and again. Stay connected with the artist, share the track with friends who love darker alternative sounds, and keep an eye on what comes next, because something special is building here, and it is well worth following.
