We spoke with Diamond Blacc about “F.U.C.K” and more!

Hi! How does “F.U.C.K” capture the essence of your personal and artistic expression?

A: F.U.C.K captures a niche facet of who I am as an artist. It is the epitome of risk taking and straightforwardness, qualities I hope to exemplify not only in my art but my life. Fearlessness is a quality I want to be synonymous with my music and the artistic expressions exemplified in my videos enhance the freedom within self. Expression for me is a lifestyle so it feels important for me to translate very real and relatable experiences in my music. While F.U.C.K is more risque, art is meant to not only appease but challenge and I believe it does just that.

What message or vibe do you want listeners to take away from “F.U.C.K”?

A: I want listeners to let loose and have fun. It’s a dance track so I want you to do just that! For 2:54 seconds, free your mind and release your inhibitions. Rock your hips and move your body! It’s an open invitation to Diamond’s world where you are welcome and free to be who you are!

How did you approach blending sensuality and sexuality in the lyrics and melody?

A: Blending these two was my main priority! I kept it sensual through the use of my lyrics. There are no curse words in the verses, only the hook and the lyrics are sexually neutral. The melody of the song was so distinct that I felt it was important to hold back during the verses and have an explosive and repetitive hook to maintain the melody and keep listeners engaged. The sensuality of the lyrics guides the listeners through the song and the freedom of the hook personifies sexuality that can be heard over and over in F.U.C.K.

Can you tell us about the creative process behind the music video for “F.U.C.K”?

A: I wanted to bring life to my very own secret world. Often, the worlds we create and fantasize in our minds  often die from forgetfulness or fear. I wanted to indulge listeners to not only a song but an experience that would ignite your senses and make you want to experience it again and again, kind of like sex lol. Everything was shot in a single space yet every section and shot we got for the video gives viewers a completely different scene, element, character and fantasy. I wanted worlds to collide in this video and have you leaving very differently than when you entered. It’s a dream, fantasy, and parallel universe manifested into a very real reality, just behind a door. It was my hope to take listeners on a visual ride as well so everything about this video is very literal and I wanted to make sure that translated to accompany the song.

What challenges did you face while making a song that pushes boundaries like “F.U.C.K”?

A: This song faced many obstacles from its inception in late 2021. F.U.C.K endured multiple recordings, multiple producers, failed relationships, and at times exhausting experiences. In the end it was all worth it because patience redirected me to the creatives I needed to bring this to life and for them all I am most grateful. In totality F.U.C.K really showed me who is in my corner artistically and even more so personally. People really tried to F.U.C.K. me over…oh the irony but F.U.C.K triumphed! I’m so proud of this song!

How does “F.U.C.K” reflect your growth and evolution as an artist?

A: F.U.C.K is my “fuck it” as an artist. When I say “fuck it”, I mean I am going for it and I am following my vision no matter what. I don’t care what anyone thinks nor should I.  This song is a stark contrast from my other works and came out of left field but I wouldn’t have it any other other way. My versatility and range are vast and it is my job as an artist to explore those unknown ranges and have the courage to put out what I’ve learned and gained from those explorations. The idea, subject matter and content is more explicit yet it speaks truth in a very appealing way. It embodies who I am and is an element of expression that I am happy to share as I continue to learn and grow.

What role does confidence play in delivering such a provocative performance in “F.U.C.K”?

A: I summoned all the confidence inside of me to make this happen! I really had to be willing to step into new and uncharted territory in my artistry for this song. I was nervous at first but when I heard the final version of the song, there was no way I was keeping this hidden from the world. There is always something inside of me that wants to break free and fly, this song gave me that opportunity. I’ve developed a newfound confidence in myself and my art, one that is only reliant only on myself and my abilities. Its a freedom I’ve gained and one I plan to tap into much more.

How do you hope “F.U.C.K” stands out in the landscape of modern R&B?

A: I hope the song stands out as bold, unique and authentic. I believe music is supposed to make you feel something and that feeling is unique to every individual listening. I don’t compare or categorize myself and I hope that my music stands out to the listeners themselves rather than the category or space the song finds itself. The song is meant to be an experience rooted in freedom and if anything, it is my hope that it can be enjoyed.

How has the reaction been from your fans to the release of “F.U.C.K” so far?

A: For those previously familiar with my music, this song I think definitely shocked people because it was out the ordinary! I’m glad it did because that was my intention. What surprised me most was the vast audience this song has reached and its reception on a global level. I’ve been connecting with DJs all over the world and they’ve been playing my song in clubs. This song has been having a very organic growth and it being played in clubs really gives the song the experience it deserves. I am very happy and proud of F.U.C.K and I’m even more grateful to everyone who played the song and listened to it. If you haven’t heard F.U.C.K yet, what are you waiting for?!
