I found Liam Higgins’ new song “Distance” the other night and haven’t stopped playing it since. From the first few seconds, it pulls you in – soft strings, these faint flute-like sounds, and then the piano drops in with his voice. It feels less like a song and more like stepping into someone’s memory.
The lyrics hit hard without sounding overdone. That first line, “ten feet tall on father’s shoulders,” instantly puts an image in your head. When the chorus comes around with those layered strings and gentle guitar, it’s like he’s singing the kind of feelings you’ve never been able to say out loud. The drums slowly creep in, adding weight without drowning anything out.
There’s a part where he sings, “Oh distance, what you do to me,” and it just lingers with you. The ending, just piano fading out, feels like a quiet sigh after a conversation you wish you’d had.
I really like this song and think it should be in everyone’s playlist because it’s not just pretty background music – it feels honest and stays with you long after it’s over. Liam has carved out something that feels different in the folk-pop space, and it’s seriously good.
Listening to songs so you don’t have to! Just kidding :D, you totally should. Music blogger by day, nurse by night
