Review: Zachary Mason – Welcome To My Heart

After taking a two-year step into the world of rock, Guildford singer-songwriter Zachary Mason returns to his folk roots with his latest EP, Welcome To My Heart. Released on July 10th, 2026, the three-song collection offers a quiet, deeply personal look into the mind and feelings of the 29-year-old artist. Zachary has built a reputation as a steady writer since launching his first single, “Special People”, back in 2023, followed by his debut album, Songs. With hundreds of demo tracks created in his home studio across from Andertons Music store in Guildford, this new record shows him slowing down to focus on clear, honest storytelling.

The opening track, titled “Can’t Feel My Autumn…”, sets a sad and reflective tone right away. The song describes a point in Zachary’s life when taking the medication Zoloft made it hard for him to feel the full depth of Autumn, a season that usually brings him strong feelings and nostalgia. Rather than filling the space with loud instruments, the song relies on soft guitar work to let the emotion lead. This open, gentle feeling continues into the second track, “I Need Freedom”, which speaks directly to the need for personal space and recovery. The EP closes with “Me And I”, a track Zachary calls his personal favorite, bringing the short project to a soft and thoughtful finish.

While the writing comes straight from Zachary’s own experiences, the music benefits greatly from a top team of talent. American engineer David E Beats, who is based in Toulouse, France, produced and mastered the record, keeping the acoustic sounds crisp and natural while also playing bass on track two. Nate Barnes from the rock band Rose Hill Drive brings a steady drumbeat to the second and third tracks, while Little Big Town bassist John Thomasson adds a warm low end to the final song. Their contributions give the songs a clean, solid structure without taking away from the quiet feel of the acoustic guitars.

This release is another step forward in a busy career. Zachary has already earned over a million online plays, reached the semi-finals of the 2025 ISC with “I Wish Humans Were Made In A Factory…”, and gained notice from music blogs like SPIN Magazine and Rolling Stone En Español. Following other recent work like “Sweetheart”, “Madness Gladness”, and his sci-fi themed project 5…, Welcome To My Heart stands out as one of his most direct efforts yet. Taking inspiration from classic writers like Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and The Beatles, Zachary Mason delivers an honest, grounded record that proves simple songs often say the most.
