Review: Circus Mind – Whole Lotta Nuthin

Circus Mind returns with “Whole Lotta Nuthin”, a groove-heavy jam that locks you in from the first beat. Funky, soulful, and full of character, the track rolls with vintage charm while keeping things fresh and loose. Think Little Feat swagger, WAR’s rhythmic punch, and a touch of Dr. John grit.

Built around a super-tight rhythm section, the band dives deep into the pocket. Dan Roth on drums, Steve Finkelstein on percussion, and Mathew Fox on bass lay the foundation, while frontman Mark Rechler fills in the cracks with warm organ, Rhodes, and spacey synths. Brian Duggan’s guitar work adds just the right bite, and Michael Amendola’s sax solo lights things up at just the right moment.

The song really comes alive when Ari Teitel and Aurélien Barnes of The Rumble step in for a call-and-response chant that channels New Orleans energy at its best. It feels like the kind of track built on feel, not perfection—one that invites you to nod your head, move your feet, and just enjoy the ride.

Personally, I loved how unpolished and genuine it sounded. There’s a looseness to it that makes the groove hit harder. You can hear the band having fun, which makes it even more fun to listen to. “Whole Lotta Nuthin” is a celebration of real musicians doing what they do best, with no gimmicks in sight. It’s funky, warm, and hits all the right notes without trying too hard.

Make sure you follow Circus Mind on socials and add “Whole Lotta Nuthin” to your playlist. If you’ve been looking for something with live-band energy, deep grooves, and some real musical flavor, this is the one to spin on repeat.
